Maple-Cinnamon French Toast

Tina borrows this terrific french toast recipe from the folks at Kraft Foods. Most french toast I've had over the years is simply bread dipped in an egg-milk mixture and fried briefly on both sides and served with syrup. Tina's method has the bread soaking overnight in the egg mixture WITH a few other ingredients that provide the bread with additional flavor and sweetness. In addition, we bake the final product to ensure uniform consistancy with a wonderful golden-brown crust. You can add syrup when serving, but its really not necessary .....an accompaniment of fresh fruit works just as well.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 pkg (8 oz) Creme Chese (softened)
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup of milk

  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 loaf or french or italian bread (16 oz), cut into 16 slices
  • 1 tbsp powered sugar

BEAT the creme cheese in a medium bowl with mixer until creamy then add the next 5 ingredients.

DIP the bread in the mixture then place in a large, shallow casserole dish or bowl. Pour the remainder of the creme cheese mixture over the top and refrigerate for at least an hour but preferably over night.

HEAT oven to 425 degrees. Place bread in single layer on a baking sheet sprayed with cooking spray.

BAKE 15 to 20 minutes, or until golden brown turning after 8 minutes. Sprinkle with powered sugar and serve with fresh fruit.
